In my work, I have always been inspired by the obscurity of bizarre objects and creatures. A sea slug called “nudibranch” fits this category perfectly. I created a hanging lamp in a shape of this gastropod and its egg. In their natural habitat, sea slugs are active predominantly at night. The lamp creates an atmosphere of intimacy, reminiscent of the underwater experience of a diver who must shed light onto the dark world of the ocean at night. The hanging lamps are hand made in a glasshouse, and thus every piece is an original work of art. The slug’s very body does not emit light per se; it merely reflects the light coming out of the egg itself.
